Pretty project inspiration for your Patchwork Dies

Sewists and quilters, ban the traditional rotary-cutter-and-ruler method of cutting out your blocks for patchwork or applique. It takes too long and means you get to spend less time stitching the project together and personalising, which is the fun bit! Plus, we don’t know about you, but we certainly don’t want to be spending all of our time measuring and doing calculations about seam allowance. This is where the Gemini Patchwork Dies come in!

These dies have been designed to cut through multiple layers of fabric at once, so you can produce perfectly cut shapes for your projects. It really is that easy! And as they’re all nested, you have plenty of option for size variation – it’s just all about experimenting.

To help you get a little bit of inspiration on how to use your Patchwork Dies, we’ve put together this little gallery with some suggestions to help you out. Take a look!

The Patchwork Dies are absolutely perfect for using up your scraps. As you can see in the image above, one of the smaller Hexagon Dies has been used to cut a range of shapes from contrasting fabrics and turned into a stunning, zippy makeup pouch. If you’ve got odd bits of fabric lying about, these dies could be the ideal tool to help you put them to good use!

We absolutely love the Half Hexagon Patchwork Die set because it offers a bit more versatility. You can use the dies as half hexagons or cut two pieces of fabric to sew together and form a full hexagon. In this quilt above, you can see that the Half Hexagon Die has been used to produce abstract interlocking shapes for a fun, bold effect! We just love those vivid colours and the incredible pattern.

Speaking of the Half Hexagon Patchwork Dies, take a look at this cushion and see how they’ve been used to produce a unique, almost layered look. It’s as if the fabrics have been bandage-wrapped over each other – how cool does it look? The rainbow colours help to make this effect truly stand out, so try this and go crazy with shades and patterns!

Of course, the Patchwork Dies don’t have to solely be for patchwork – they’re also brilliant for applique, just like on the table runner above. In this project, the 60 degree Diamond Dies have been used to form arrow points, which have then been arranged into gorgeous snowflake-like elements and sewn across the runner. It’s a gorgeous effect and truly shows the potential that these dies have!

Because these dies are nested, you have the chance to cut shapes in various sizes for the same project to add a bit of depth and dimension. In the bag above, the 60 degree Diamond Patchwork Dies have been used to create the points of a star with the diamonds layered on top of each other. This is such a modern look and we just love the way that this bag has turned out! You could try making your own bag from scratch or personalising one that you already own!

Break up a monochrome project with pretty pops of colour, just like this Equilateral Triangle Patchwork Die cushion! The black and white pieces feature textures and interesting details, which are offset by the blocks of solid colour, making this a contemporary project. It’s simply stunning and would be perfect for scatter cushion projects.
