How to create a King’s Coronation Pom Pom Wreath

As Brits, we LOVE a nationwide celebration, and with the upcoming Coronation of King Charles this weekend, it’s guaranteed that there’ll be street parties galore filled with food, laughter, and royal-themed decorations.

What better way to celebrate and get involved than with a regal red, white, and blue pom pom wreath? 

We’ve created an easy step-by-step guide with all you need to make your own.

You will need the following materials:

• Make Christmas with Sara – Pom Pom Maker – 4pk
• Wool in colours red, white, and blue
• A base for your wreath. We’ve used a thin round piece of MDF. Alternatively, you could use card or a wreath ring
• Scissors
• A hot glue gun 

Getting started

Take your pom pom maker, and ensure it is open in two halves.

Using your wool, wrap around one-half of the circular tool until it’s as thick as you require. (Top tip: The thicker the wool, the bigger the pom pom!). 

Repeat the steps on the other side of the pom pom maker so both halves are covered.

Snip the end of the wool, leaving enough string to tie around the pom pom.

Close the pom pom maker together creating a full circle and clip in place. 

Using scissors, cut lengthways down the centre of your wool. You should now see it starting to take shape!

Repeat on the other side of the tool. 

Use the leftover wool to wrap around the centre of the pom pom, tying a knot at the top to secure it in place. 

Remove the completed pom pom from the tool and trim the edges with scissors so that it is perfectly round. 

Repeat the above steps until you have a mixture of pom poms in red, white, and blue, and ensure you have a selection of both large and small.

To make pom poms with a mixture of different colours, use a combination of red, white, and blue wool when wrapping it around the tool.

Completing your wreath

Take your wreath base and your hot glue gun. Glue each pom pom to the base, ensuring that there is a good mixture of colours and sizes. 

Allow the glue to dry.

Your wreath is complete and ready to hang, just in time for Coronation celebrations!
