Here’s what you’ll need
- Felt
- Thread
- Embroidery needle
- Twine (we used a white and red one from one of our Christmas card making kits but you can use plain!)
- Wadding or stuffing
- One piece of white card
Step-by-step instructions
- Create your template. You can print or draw this onto the white card. You will need to create a larger and smaller heart template. Cut it out.
- Work out how many hearts you want to create in big and small hearts and cut double that amount in felt. We used various shades of pink for ours. (If you have a Gemini and the heart shaped multimedia die in your stash you could use that!)
- Start stitching the hearts together leaving about a two inch opening at the top. You can used a looped stitch, running stitch or blanket stitch but we liked the look of a blanket stitch. Choose a thread in a contrasting tone. For example, on our dark pink hearts, we use a light pink or white thread.
- Once these have all been sewn start stuffing! Not too much but enough to create some dimension.
- Cut some lengths of twine (one for each heart) the length of these will depend on how you want your bunting to hang. We alternated between some lower and higher hanging hearts. Make a knot at the bottom of each piece.
- Place the knot end into the centre of the top of the heart. Holding it in place start stitching the heart closed. Finish by tying off the thread and trimming and loose threads.
- Take a long length of twine and start tying the hearts on, evenly spacing them apart until you have used all the hearts.
